History

Personal History Born in 2353, Ly'thy Sareil was born aboard the starship USS "Plantaganet". His mother and father were both doctors working aboard the ship, and from a young age he was encouraged to pursue whatever interested him - however it was clear from a young age that he wasn't not great with fellow kids; he often interacted well with adults, polite in manner and eloquent, but he was prone to fighting with his peers. They noticed Ly'thy seemed too young for his brother to really interact with, and while they remained familiar and friendly, they never quite grew into friends until their youths had passed.

Sheh Sareil would later transfer aboard the USS "Rutledge" by 2360, while Ly'thy and his mother remained aboard the "Plantaganet". Erye, now the ship's CMO, helped her son act more his age and begin to get along with others - but this came at the cost of his discipline and his maturity around adults, to Erye's dismay. This made the raising of her newborn son and younger daughter even more difficult, as she was now without a partner to raise the child, and her eldest son was going through the difficulties of adolescence.

Aboard the "Rutledge", Sheh would transport down to Setlik III in 2363, a field medic who was soon thrust into the role of soldier as he aided in an assault on the Cardassian Barrica settlement. The elder Sareil would survive the encounter, but would never be the same man; still an effective doctor, he withdrew from society and grew prone to illness. Back on the "Plantaganet", Ly'thy worried his mother when he appeared to be a follower, agreeing to stunts with the other children that he should know better than to pull, simply to belong. After a long talk, the two agreed it might be best to leave the ship.

Ly'thy and Erye would transfer to Starbase Outpost "Mirage", near Andoria, in 2364. The eleven year old Sareil consorted with children his race and age and went to school on Andoria with them for some time. He managed to strike a better balance between responsibility and youth; causing trouble, but never overwhelming trouble. He grew closer to his younger sister, becoming a protector in the way many view an older brother should be.

Between 2364 and 2369, Ly'thy would become remarkably more like his young self, in his dedication to study and responsibility. Having been removed from his dad for nearly a decade, and experiencing Sheh's struggle after Setlik III, the younger Sareil wanted desperately to appeal to a father he felt he was losing. Wishing to follow in his parents' footsteps, Sareil was preparing to enter Starfleet - he just couldn't figure out what he wanted to do.

Sheh retired from Starfleet in 2370, after 30 years of service as a doctor; he would return to the fervently studious Ly'thy, a sickly man who didn't wish to speak much. His son would respond by reading more textbooks; math, science, engineering, medical, history, he consumed as much as he could, though still undecided on his own desire for the future. A chat with Erye would reveal that she feared Ly'thy would suffer a trauma similar to Sheh, and be lost to her for good. The frightened Ly'thy would, for the first time, approach his brother Viddin for support. Vidden, now preparing to teach history in Andorian public school for the first time, advised his younger brother to finally seek out what he wanted, and not try to appease their parents.

Sareil would excel at Starfleet Academy, attending from 2371-2375, graduating right as the Dominion War came to a close. In 2372, Ly'thy was of the many Starfleet students mobilized when the Changeling were believed to be targeting Earth. Out of necessity, Ly'thy Sareil was deployed aboard the USS "Decatur" in 2375, serving as an assistant to the chief engineer. The ship would fight and sustain heavy damage during the Second Battle of Chin'toka, though most of the crew somehow managed to survive unharmed.

Assigned the rank of Ensign in 2376, Ly'thy would serve aboard the USS "Vercingetorix" for 11 years; first in the Engineering section, then transferring to Medical, back to Engineering and finally to Tactical. Due to his constant change in department and his lack of leadership skills, Sareil was never promoted in spite of what was quoted to be "excellent work". During his time in engineering, the warp core efficiency was top notch, and the core itself treated like an infant in a hospital; in medical, though he lacked beside manner, Sareil proved gifted at diagnosis and treatment, well aware of procedures for a number of different races and their anatomy. As an officer in tactical, the ship's shields maintained a constant, rotating and reinforcing energy field capable of withstanding heavy punches - though his reports claimed his "aim could be better".

Finally, at the end of 2387, Ly'thy was promoted to Lt. Jr grade, and accepted a position at Starbase 213 in a role as science officer in charge of stellar cartography and astrometrics; considered to be excellent in his position, Sareil was a good subordinate who was capable in commanding small teams to complete tasks. He completely overhauled outdated S.C and Astrometrics labs, and worked in conjunction with the engineering team on several projects throughout his tenure on the Starbase. Sheh Sareil would pass away from illness in 2389, at the age of 89.

Sareil would meet his wife, Meerin, in 2390, and the two would be married with their first child on the way some time within 2391. Unfortunately, Eryre Sareil would not meet her grandchild or daughter in law, as she would pass away early in the year, having lost a lot of will and energy caring for her husband in his final years. The responsibility of the of fatherhood changed Ly'thy, who realized he might need to soften up in order to pass on knowledge to his children, and build a legacy of mature, intelligent galactic citizens.

Some time in 2393, Ly'thy published a textbook on Wormhole Stabilizing Components and their potential for large scale FTL travel, simply called "Wormholes as Galactic Highways: Thinking Beyond Warp 10". In 2394, Sareil noticed a miscalculation from a previous astrometrics report incorrectly representing the path of a comet passing within the system, which could actually have struck a moon close enough to Starbase 213 to cause serious damage were there a collision; Ly'thy Sareil and his XO took a shuttle to the comet and moved it out of the moon's way using the tractor beam. To top the year off, his daughter was born just as he was about to accept promotion.

Promoted to Lieutenant in 2395, Sareil accepted a teaching position at Starfleet Academy, moving his young family to Earth to teach a number of science courses, including Wormhole and Temporal mechanics, as well as the science of Transporter technology. Over this time, Ly'thy and Meerin had a second son, and Sareil published two more books - another expanding on his previous wormhole theory, and another on the potential for timespace travel in Black Holes titled "Along the Outskirts of Edge Horizon: Where Time and Space Overlap". The Andorian spent a decade teaching at the Academy, even to the annoyance of his wife; Meerin, and some of his peers, believed Sareil had settled into his role as professor and author. Frustrated, Ly'thy requested a transfer.

Brought aboard the USS "Scipio" in 2405 as its CSO, Sareil clashed with the Captain early and often. The two respected each other, but not the others' methods; Ly'thy was even threatened to be docked down in rank on multiple occasions, though this proved only to be a bluff. Struggling with three young children and a wife who feared stagnation, some claimed Sareil to be doing too much, and becoming inefficient. Though the department was well structured and run efficiently, his crew had little love or loyalty for the tough to like Andorian. In 2409, the "Scipio" was ripped apart by an unexpected temporal anomaly, which sent one half of the ship into the past before closing on the second half, destroying it in the process. Stranded in the year 2009 in unexplored space, Sareil was made the defacto first officer as the remaining crew repaired what little of the ship they could; lacking their engines, all seemed lost. Until the Captain and Sareil devised a plan using the ship's two remaining shuttles, the ship's remaining shield power and several quantum torpedoes - set to explode at the point the wormhole aperture had closed, the shield was overloaded, discharging gravitational force to the point where the torpedoes would explode; the energy created two small quantum singularities, which the shuttles ripped open with modified tractor beams, reopening the wormhole just long enough for the remains of the "Scipio" to limp through.

Following the assignment aboard the "Scipio", Ly'thy Sareil was promoted to Lt. Commander and assigned aboard the Starbase Versailles.
