Welcome to Starbase Versailles

Starbase Versailles sits at a pivotol point within the Beta Quadrant - at the nexus of the three major powers: the Federation, the Romulan Republic and the Klingon Empire. As such, the station is a hub of activity both politically and economically.

Additionally, the Federation Border Defense Network is housed out of Versailles. A large fleet of ships, including Defiant class and Akira class, they keep a watchful eye on activities in the region, patrolling the border between the Klingon, Romulan, and Federation territories.

Versailles is also responsible for oversight of the Federation colony on YaDalla - a planet that has seen its fair share of strife. Lately, due to overmining and the testing of prototype weaponry, the planet destabilised and exploded. While the colony itself is now a steadily-expanding cluster of rocks, the people survived, and Versailles has never once forgotten its duties towards the refugees.

All in all, it's a busy place for busy people.

Hello everyone,

As noted on Discord, October was a little slowed than we'd hoped. I won't challenge people for their reasons, as I am as much to blame for the lull as any of you.

Instead, we should simply class October as a "Versailles Vacation", and come back with a vengeance in November.

To celebrate our triumphant return to form, I'll be sending out starters over the course of the week, and aiming to get the next plot log out within the next few days.

If people have ongoing challenges that prevent them from writing long logs, I do encourage people to consider short log-ettes of 2-3 paragraphs.

For folk who cannot manage even that, I ask that you try to find time to message me on Discord. This simple act is the difference between LOA and AWOL, and yes that includes Civilians.

Hello everyone,

The sleeping beast that is Versailles has stirred amidst the autumn leaves, casting a lazy, predatory eye upon the single-digit log count of the summer.

We've seen some great material come flying out of our finely-honed log machine this month, and I predict yet more acts of premeditated literary brilliance to come.

Currently, our grand Wheel of Misfortune orbits a black hole. This peels away panels and NPCs with gay abandon, which might be great for our Chief Engineer's job security, but does no favours for our resale value.

Which is why, in the month to come, we'll be moving even closer to the border; summoning a mixed fleet-of-fleets to drag Versailles into warp, and to drop us off in orbit of the iceball currently known as Rogue 17.

This frozen hell is soon to be filled with Klingons, Romulans, and whatever mixed melange of malcontented mongrels constitutes the Federation these days.

So, you know. Park facing out the way you came in.

Resident deal broker Fvaiduk met with financial powerhouse Li'ara Fide and Religious Icon Tee-Sara. Despite claiming not to be a broker on both occasions, he still managed to land a pair of extremely lucrative deals for mercenaries and weapons & armour, respectively.

Fvaiduk later touched base with Feen, one of his operators. It seems Feen had received an indecipherable message from a region of space coveted by Delaney Truffault; someone who often contracted work to Feen via Fvaiduk. They later met up, where Fvaiduk blackmailed Feen into his service via dark secrets.

Meanwhile, in the spindle, our newest Diplomatic Aide met her new boss. Hitting it off on the right foot, Aleethia was quickly entrusted with handling a key business deal between a Bolian Ambassador and a consortium of local colonies.

Near the top of the spindle, our new Chief Science Officer met up with the CO. After a chat about the plans for the station's future, they shot the breeze for a minute about the station's warp cores, and wrapped up in short order.

Hello Versailles!

As a result of the recent discussions, the sim will undergo a number of changes in the coming weeks and months.

Most of them will happen organically as part of the current plot. I'll try to be clear when it happens, putting details in marked Plot Logs, or announcements on Discord.

One change, however, is happening with immediate effect.

As of now, Versailles is rated 16, as defined by the PEGI system.

So, things you CAN do in logs:

- Kill folk.
- Hurt folk.
- Swear.
- Have sex.
- Drink and take drugs.
- Glamorise crime.

And things you CAN'T:

- Directly refer to genitals.
- Torture folk.
- Get too gross with the violence.
- Rape folk.
- Violent/sexual behaviour towards children or old folk.
- Glamorise Drugs.

For further details, see Google.

Lastly, while you may all be thrilled by the new and exciting words and topics you can now use in logs, do use common sense. Think of it like salt: it's a condiment, not a main course. This isn't McDonalds. ;)

I'm on Discord most days if anyone has questions.

Most importantly, have fun!

Best Regards

Hey All,

Versailles is back in business!

Last year, Romulan Mimic Agents impersonated various Versailles personnel, and tried to take out the station.

However, thanks to some hard work by the entire crew, we were able to weather the storm, and develop a way to capture or kill the last of them.

Then the reason they were targeting our power grid became clear. A transport vessel dropped out of warp and *imploded*; the result of it activating a device.

An oversized, weaponized, Romulan Singularity Power Core.

Basically a black hole in a box.

Now unleashed, the black hole started to drag the partially-sabotaged Versailles into its maw. Bits were ripped off of the station, children were evacuated onto whatever ships were nearby, and waves of gravity washed over the station.

Some miracle work by our CEO allowed us to shunt every last scrap of power to the thrusters, and we juuuuuuust about made it; landing ourselves in a stable orbit far, far too close to the black hole, but alive.

The station is one step away from being a full-on wreck, though you couldn't tell from looking (because it looks like we took that step). Ceilings have fallen in, people are trapped, fires are raging everywhere, and a lot of people are panicking.

But at least you all have *great* job security. ;)

Summary: no Klingons, no Romulan Mimic Agents, no Assassins, just a wrecked station that's on fire, with a black hole out the window. Oh, and random systems will go on and off due to damage and the gravity well still warping the station, making it groan ominously.

See, even the *architecture* is tired of this.

Feel free to go ahead and log your displeasure, and the displeasure of your colleagues.

I am back full time now, and will receive JL requests at any time.

Let's fix this broken, burning tyre-fire and go for drinks. :D

Best Regards

Hey All!

Today's theme is Good news, Bad news.

The good news is that Puppy, a longstanding member of Versailles, is being promoted to Commanding Officer.

*crowd goes wild*

Also, I will be stepping down as of today. Though you may see me in the channels every now and again, I will not be holding formal positions.

*crowd goes wilder*

Wait, what? That was the bad news! Me leaving isn't cheer-worthy!

*crowd gets hysterical with glee. Girls in the front row start to pass out with excitement*

What's wrong with you?! I'm leavin'! Bzzz-ZZZZ!

...Later, backstage...

On a serious note, it's been a lot of fun logging with you all, and I hope you continue to enjoy adventures aboard Versailles.

As for the black hole, we have managed to achieve orbit by the renowned talents of our Chief Engineer. Science has been tasked with finding a long-term solution for the black hole problem, Security has riots to handle, Medical has many injured to take care of, Ops needs to really tighten peoples belts until we can get food in, and everyone can feel free to have fun with the gravity waves randomly disabling systems.

Flick off the gravity for a moment, and release the experimental monkeys! Fly my pretties, fly!

Do have fun, and be nice to Puppy. :)

Best Regards
