Karli Cain grew up on Mars and spent a great deal of time on Utopia Planetia with her parents, who were both in the field of ship design. Her mother died in child birth when she was young due to a complication made worse by an incompetent doctor. She and her father spent the rest of her childhood somewhat estranged, and while she began Starfleet Academy at her father's encouragement, she left without completing her education after finding the education system too stifling. She spent several years on the Superstation as an artist, specializing in commissions for high ranking Starfleet officers who wanted stylized reproductions of their ships. There she met the young Captain Martin Fury and fell in love (though she would hardly have admitted it). After a couple of years of a-little-more-than friendship Martin Fury was sent to command a deep space mission and no longer visited the Superstation. No longer fond of her life as a 'starving artist' without her lover, not to mention many other Starfleet friends who had been and gone, she returned to the Academy and was re-accepted. She finished her education and went on to several posts, eventually ending up at Versailles as Assistant Chief of Security. Here she unexpectedly ran into her former lover, Martin Fury, now a Commodore, who had been posted there as well. It had been man years since they had last met, but the flame was easily and quickly rekindled. Their relationship grew alongside their careers, including several dangerous conflicts on Versailles and even a combat situation on the station. Not long after Fury had asked Karli to marry him in the traditional Orion way (which she was not aware of until much later) he was hospitalized for a debilitating condition and later disappeared from the hospital room. He is listed as MIA and presumed to have come in contact with a post-corporeal being. Karli learned she was pregnant after his disappearance, and was quickly targeted by Fury family enemies. She was forced to do a disappearing act of her own, and left Versailles for the safety of her unborn son, taking refuge with the Fury Family in the Orion system. She and her son later returned to Versailles with one of Martin Fury's many cousins, Trell Fury, as their guardian and safe keeper after the Fury Family's enemy was defeated. Cain still hopes that someday her lover might return to the place where he disappeared. |
