| Ambitions | Having already had a fairly long career in Starfleet, including his own command, a lot of Karl's career ambitions that he had when he graduated from the Academy have been realised. However, with the shadow that he feels that the first half of his career ended under, and with the personal losses he has suffered in relation to the tragic loss of his wife and the breakdown in the relationship with his son, Karl has a strong desire to attempt to "right the wrongs" of the past. However, before he can do that he needs to rebuild a solid foundation in his life..and for Karl, one of the most constant forces in his life has been Starfleet. |

| Hobbies & Interests | Holoprogramming - Karl is well-versed in programming holographic simulations. He has used this skill frequently in order to program training simulations for the Security departments of his previous postings, as well as his own personal training programs. When not on duty, Karl can often be found in the holodecks training. Ancient Weaponry - Karl owned a large collection of ancient Terran and Klingon weaponry, including both melee and ranged weapons. However, most of his collection was lost following the destruction of Versailles. Karl had started rebuilding his collection, but he has left the majority of it at home on Earth, carrying only a few pieces that he uses in his quarters for decoration. One of these pieces is a sword known as the "Sword of the Apocalypse". This was the sword Karl used during the battles with Quinn Renton and his demonic forces on Versailles. Part of Karl's private collection, and purchased in Spain on Earth, this sword has serrated teeth at the bottom of the three and a half foot long blade. Adorning the hilt of the sword are carvings of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, with the pommel of the sword said to depict "a warrior angel standing triumphantly over the forces of evil". Martial Arts - Karl has studied martial arts from a young age, picking up a variety of different fighting styles. As of late, he has not had need to use them aggressively and only really used them to keep in shape. This changed however, once the visions of Renton began appearing, and from that moment on, Karl stepped up his training regime again in order to hone his skills. |
History
| Personal History | Relationships ___________________ Karl has been involved in several relationships during his life. The first began when he was eighteen years old. This was with a local girl named Sarah O'Connell, and lasted for three years. The end of the relationship came about when Karl wanted to go to Starfleet Academy, but Sarah did not want to join Starfleet at that time. Thinking he may never see Sarah again after arriving at Honegah, he became close friends with another student in his class. She was Karen Taylor, from San Francisco. This close friendship soon developed into a relationship, and they graduated from Starfleet together, with intent to marry as soon as possible. However, Starfleet posted them to separate places..meaning that Karl missed the birth of their son, Josh. Two years later, Karl and Karen were both assigned to Deep Space Orion, located in the New Eden system of the Gamma Quadrant. This allowed them to finally get married and raise their son together. Their relationship had it's rough spots however. These include the destruction of Deep Space Orion and the subsequent loss (and cybernetic replacement) of Karen's left leg, the abduction of Josh by a gang known as the Pai, Karl's own kidnapping by the Blood Axe Gang, and Sarah's appearance aboard Starbase Versailles, eager to reclaim her former love. After joining Starfleet as a Security officer, she was posted to Versailles as Karl's partner on patrols. Not knowing Karl was married to Karen, she attempted to restart their relationship. When Karl was finally able to break the news to her, she was hurt, but over time grew to accept it, and to this day Karl and Sarah remain close friends. However, an even greater threat, not just to Karen and Karl, but to the entire crew of Starbase Versailles came when Quinn Renton came to call. Posing as a member of Gelfworks, Quinn installed upgrades to the station's equipment that, at the flick of a button, all came under his control. Power shut down completely, and a horde of demonic foes, summoned using Renton's unholy powers. The struggles with Renton were horrific, with large amounts of casualties caused to all empires, including Soran, who fell during one titanic struggle with Quinn. At the end of it all, the station was destroyed, and presumably, Renton with it. Following that, Karl returned to Earth with his family, on an Extended Medical Leave of Absence, in order to get over the events that took place. However, things did not end there. In 2404, Karl and Karen separated, following Karl's decisions to follow feelings that he had developed following a series of hallucinations involving Quinn Renton, the man they were battling at the time of the old Starbase Versailles' destruction, despite Starfleet Medical and Karen herself believing that they were nothing more than traumatic visions brought upon by what transpired nearly three years ago. Karen took Josh and went back to live with her mother in San Francisco, while Karl headed out into space to discover why the hallucinations were happening. This chain of events led Karl to be inadvertently sucked through an anomaly that left him in the Triangulum Galaxy. It would take him a further 8 years to return to Confederation space, essentially hitchhiking his way across space on any vessel he was able to obtain passage on. Following his return, Karl has attempted to reunite with Josh, who after living with Karen's parents in San Francisco in the years following her death had enrolled in Starfleet Academy. However, with Josh feeling that his father's disappearance was the reason that his mother had put herself in sufficient peril to result in her tragic death, this has proven to be difficult. Josh is currently in his second year at the Academy, and Karl has kept a close eye on his progress, even if Josh's feelings towards him are somewhat cold right now. Friends ____________ Karl has made a lot of friends on many of the ships and starbases that he has served on, many of which have he has been out of contact with for a long time. However on the Pendragon he had reunited with several people he had met in the past. Pthia Son'rath served with Karl on Deep Space Orion and was one of the first people that he was able to regain contact with on his return, having met up with her when he arrived at the Superstation to reactivate his commission. Another person that Karl reunited with from his past is Rhayne Olin, who he actually endorsed to enter the Academy while he was in command of Starbase Versailles. Rhayne's father served in the Starfleet Security division alongside Karl during his days in Security, and he and her mother requested to Karl that she be allowed to enter the Academy as her mother was a Romulan dissident, which placed all of them in considerable danger. Rhayne went to the Academy, however her parents were tragically killed in the destruction of the original Versailles. Karl also saw Rhayne aboard the Superstation prior to her starting her assignment on the Pendragon, which led to a rather heated exchange in Ten Forward as she demanded to know where he had been. Little did she know, but Karl had actually been assigned to the Pendragon as Chief Tactical Officer, and he used the time serving together to get to know Rhayne again after his long absence, and to continue to fulfil his debt to her parents. After serving on the Pendragon for several months, Karl returned home after the ship was decommissioned and awaited his next assignment from Starfleet Command. Little did he suspect that once again, Starbase Versailles would be his destination... |

| Medical Record | Karl has been fortunate enough to have been able to keep himself in good physical condition, despite some of the many ordeals he has had, not only during his Starfleet career but during his disappearance Psychiatric Profile ____________________ Most Recent Entry (Starfleet Medical - 241211.15) -------------------------------------------------- In my assessment, Karl Williams has held up remarkably well psychologically considering the events of the last few years, culminating with the unfortunate loss of his wife Karen. The visions that were noted in his previous assessment have apparently abated at some point over the last eight years. When we asked Karl about when this had occurred, he was unable to isolate a particular time at which this happened. This is not being treated as suspicious due to the fact that Karl was stranded outside of friendly space for many years, which may have resulted in Karl's self-preservation instincts taking over. However this does not appear to have had any further overly adverse effects on Karl's psyche. He is understandably upset at present in relation to the loss of his wife, and his experiences in the intervening eight years have tempered but we have no reason to believe that this has developed into any sort of issue that would result in his inability to carry out his duties as a Starfleet officer. The changes in his overall demeanour that we have noticed are consistent with the developments noted in any maturing, experienced Starfleet officer and not anything that would cause alarm. He has also shown exceptional control of his aggressive side which has surprised some of the counselors on my staff, as in their previous experience they had noticed that similar cases had aggressive episodes under the same conditions. However, Karl's case appears to be one of the rare ones that has surprised us. Hopefully Karl continues to progress in future in this positive vein. With that, I hereby approve Karl Williams's request to return to active Starfleet duty. Dr. Elowan Atrix, Senior Psychological Analyst, Starfleet Medical Previous Entry: (Starfleet Medical, 240412.01) ---------------------------------------------- Karl has a very pleasant personality overall, which allows him to work well both as part of a crew, and as a commander. However, Karl has been known to have a short temper in various situations. One reported example of such a situation arose when his son was abducted on Starbase Versailles. A Romulan prisoner who was held for interrogation regarding the matter required urgent medical attention following an interrogation led by Karl. However, he has shown that he is able to keep this aggressive side in check, despite doubts arising following his ordeal at the hands of the Blood Axe gang on Versailles, as well as the Quinn Renton situation. The visions that Karl has been seeing in recent months regarding Quinn Renton are mysterious, but numerous psychiatric evaluations have indicated that there is no malicious force controlling them by way of telepathic contact or mind control. However, the extraordinary reports given by those present at the Versailles incidents cause us to believe that these examples can not be ruled out fully at this time. |
