Ky'La had no sooner stepped off the shuttle that ferried her here, she heard a deffinite difference in the Stations systems. Something was not synched correctly and she made a bee line for engineering. 'I'll see the CO once I fix the bug', she mumbled to herself as she continued to engineering. Wondering who was in charge while she took the position, she ran into engineering and right dab smack into a tool box on the deck. Nearly tripping over it, she bellowed, "Whose bloody tool...", looking at it..."antique tool box in the middle of the deck", she finished, looking around.
Running towards her was an engineer with Lieutenant's pips, out of breath and red in the face as he came to a screeching halt just in front of her. Breathing hard, " I am so...", gasping for air, "so sorry...er...sir...ma'am...sir...", still gasping.
"Slow down Lieutenant and breathe ok? First don't call me sir or ma'am. It sounds so stiff...just call me Chief or Ky'La or Chief Ky'La, it sounds so much...less stiff and more relaxed", she said, patting the young Lieutenant on the shoulder. The poor kid sat on the deck panting, " Understood Chief...sorry for the confusion and for leaving the tool box in the middle. How can I help you Chief...", he said, getting up.
"Well for starters, you vam tell me why the inertial damppeners are off by
.09 microns?", she said.
"Chief you can tell that difference?", he said with a priceless look on his face.
"Son, I could tell a .06 micron difference in the Academy. Now let's get ot fixed shall we", she said.
"Yes Chief", he said, and he led her to where the IF main control console was. He watched her as her hands skimmed the console and when she ran the diagnostic, it came back correct with no variances. "Holy shit Chief, you did that just that fast? Where...how did you learn to do that?", he said, with a shocked look.
"Trade secrete. Ask me some day and I will teach you. However for now, just show me where my office is", she said.
"Right this way Chief", he said as he led her. Further into the stations decks.
