SD242012.15 - Joint Duty Log - CO & CEO - "How Ready Are We?"

Posted on Thu Feb 11th, 2021 @ 12:55am by Lieutenant Commander Ky'La De'Lenn & Brigadier General Jonathan Grey

798 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Escape Velocity
Location: Grey's Office
Timeline: Just before the towing log.

ON:

Ky'la knew Grey was in his office and with things getting tense she walked into his office. "Well I hope we don't fall apart before we get to the yard," she said, putting her hand on his shoulder.

The General didn't blink at his CEO helping herself to his office, knowing her as he did, though he did raise a questioning eyebrow at the sudden touching. His yeoman suddenly found a nearby padd very fascinating, carefully inspecting every facet of its scratched surface.

"Commander," said the General, a calm warning riding on his tone, "take your hand off, please."

"Got up on the wrong side I see," De'Lenn said, gently removing her hand from his shoulder. "What's going on? Aside from the fire and you getting back into your quarters, what's up?"

Stone-faced at the comment, Grey took a breath and cooled the rising temper inside. Right now the station was falling to bits, and preparing to travel many times faster than the designers had intended it to. Then would come deceleration, orbit, attaching the Solar Emitter, and repairing all the damage caused in the process. He had to allow her a little leeway, at least until the station wasn't falling apart.

So, never, really.

"The towing fleet is nearly assembled." he declared, reading from a padd. "The Klingons and the Romulans are here. The Yadallan regional patrol fleet has mustered in force. The border defence force has arrived. The ships starfleet promised are all here, including multiple Galaxy-class ships. All we're waiting on are the last few civilian ships. We could go now if we had to, but given the state of some of those civilian craft, I think we're better off staying put until we have spares. Less than 48 hours I'd say."

"I hate to say it but something tells me we're gonna have to move her sooner than we planned. The state of emotions on the station and from the ships out there just jumped 500% in fear and worry. Something is going on and I don't know what!" Ky'la said.

"They probably just noticed the massive fleet." said the General, placing the padd back down on his desk. "If I noticed a bunch of Klingon, Romulan, and Federation ships squaring off this close to the border, I'd probably assume it's a battle in the making. Or maybe a gravity wave, we're due for another one sometime soon."

"Well, I don't want to be around when it does. The latch on points have been reinforced. The target areas that I predicted that would be really stressed have also been reinforced. Also we have brought online more SIF field generaters", looking at Grey's face, "Don't ask where I got them from," she said before continuing. "IDF fields have been reinforced, and don't ask either, I have tons of people reinforcing the frame work of the stations weaker points. All I need is for the Security garrisons is to keep the population centered in the middle of the station when we start the move", she finished finally. Ky'La was exhausted and wore out trying to be in 9 places at once. But she got it done. "By the way Grey, I think we might be better off getting the hell outta here before it does come this way. Spares or no, we need to move and soon!" she said not liking the anxiety that was creeping in her mind.

"Stay calm, Commander." the General cautioned her, sensing the tone of the conversation shift. "We'll need you at your best to help hold this station together over the coming week or so."

He rose from his desk, walking around the corner of it to stand next to his CEO. He didn't know Klingons well enough to spot when they were afraid, but the panicky edge to her words translated pretty well across all languages.

"On that topic, we've got over a day until we're due to tow the station, and then you'll be in demand for about a week. You should get some sleep if you can, as well as a good meal. Feel free to use my replicator for some take-away if you need to." he added, gesturing to the machine in the corner of his office, "I disabled the rationing protocol, so you should take the chance to down some real food."

Ky'La looked at Grey, " I hope you don't mind if I eat here do you? I'm hungry as hell and don't really need to be disturbed," she daid walking to his replihcator and replicated her food. Sitting down, she ate heartly and before she knew it, she was sleeping on his couch in his office.
