Posted on Fri Mar 1st, 2019 @ 3:17pm by Lieutenant Commander Sarah Jordan & Brigadier General Jonathan Grey & Commodore Amanda Bleetman MD

831 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: The Sincerest Form of Flattery

Arriving on the starbase, Sarah carried her heavy belongings to her new living arrangements. She dodged people who were clearly in a rush. Sarah, exhausted and sweaty from carrying her body weight in luggage arrived at her quarters and chimed the door open. Barging in like an elephant, she immediately dropped everything in the doorway in a messy heap, sighed and muttered to herself "I'll sort this later..."

She opened a small black bag which contained a neatly pressed uniform for her to wear when she met with the commanding officers of the Star Base, it was folded perfectly and ready to be worn and also a small 'teaser' bottle of an unbranded clear glass bottle with a clear liquid inside. Sarah removed the clothing from the bag and hung it up ready to get changed before she walked into the sonic shower.

"Ahhh, I feel a lot better now" she stated, getting out of the shower and heading back to get her freshly prepared uniform. She slid into her uniform, tugging at the sleeves and the lower end of the shirt to get it tightly fitting and looking smart.

Sarah walked down the long, complicated corridors in an attempt to locate the Captain, with every footstep she took her heart racing a little more... She hated meeting new senior officers as she was always fearful of the impression she left.

She walked up to the door of the Captain's office, pressing the panel and chiming the door, she stood awaiting a response. She tugged down her sleeves, pulled down her shirt and dusted off her uniform.

She prepped herself for the contact she was about to have, remembering not to get her words muddled up and took a deep inspiration, before releasing her breath...

After standing at the door for several minutes, she checked her watch and realised the captain was unavailable she spoke up nervously, "Computer, locate General Grey".

At this point the door to the captains office opened. The bases Executive Officer, Captain Amanda Bleetman, and the Commanding Officer, General Jonathan Grey, stood within. Amanda stood up from the table she was sat at and walked over. "My apologies Lieutenant, we were just finishing a rather sensitive discussion. Please, come in, have a seat." She said, gesturing to the spare seat at the table. "Can I get you anything?" She asked, smiling.

"I'm here to report in, ready for duty Captain." Sarah stood proudly as she waited for the response from the two commanding officers. "I don't want to put you out, I am fine thank you for your offer."

For his part, General Grey reclined in his seat and inspected a padd, giving the two the faint illusion of privacy. There were several hundred Starfleet officers aboard Versailles, being the vast trade and repair hub that it was, and thousands of enlisted personnel. The department heads reported in to him, as did senior Ops personnel, but the rest were handled by his XO.

Glancing up from his padd, the General took a moment to absorb Captain Bleetman's office. Unlike his own, which was a vast dome atop an antigravity lift, this room seemed more conventional. People entered through the door instead of the floor, and the room wasn't big enough for a game of tennis.

Truth be told though, he expected he spent more time in his office than Bleetman did in hers. Though they were both bogged down with paperwork, he was under the impression that his XO had fewer attempts on her life each day than he did. This was part of the reason a four-person fireteam of marines were lurking in the shadows outside, waiting for someone to give them an excuse.

Amanda looked over briefly at Grey. She smiled briefly at his attempt to give them some privacy by burrying his head in a PADD. She looked back at the newcomer and nodded. "Well, welcome aboard Lieutenant. As i'm sure you know, i'm the Executive Officer here, and this is General Grey, the Commanding Officer. I assume you have some paperwork for me?" She asked, taking a seat back at the desk.

"I do", she extended her hand to offer the documents to the XO. She smiled, and said "I hope these are satisfactory?"

Amanda took the PADD from the new officer, and glanced over them. "Everything looks fine here. Do you have any questions? Concerns?" She asked, trying to size up the new officer.

“None, Commander she replied In a rush, “Maybe just who my chief medical officer is?” She asked.

Amanda nodded. "You're Chief Medical Officer is Lieutenant Commander Irja Niva. I'm sure you'll be able to find her in her office, or sickbay." She answered, smiling.

"Thank-you, I'll head there now and introduce myself." Sarah left the documents with the Commander as she turned and left the room. She walked towards the Medical Centre.
