Water trickled down the wall, quickly interrupted by a flurry of toweling.

Lucy swung the dirty cloth over her shoulder, and peered at the pipe in the wall. With both hands, she lifted a wrench into the space and locked it around a likely-looking joint. As another drip conspired to form, she gave it an experimental push in one direction, biting her lip.

Instead of the expected deluge, the joint squeaked as it turned, and provided resistance as it formed a tighter seal.

Puffing in relief, Lucy used the cloth to tidy up the last few hints of moisture inside the opening, before clipping the wall panel back into place.

"Tea deary?" came a quavering voice from behind her.

Turning, Lucy noticed a much older woman walking in from the next room. Shuffing with tiny steps, the walking frame in front of her held two cups and an old-fashioned tea pot inside a floral cosy.

"Thanks Nan." said Lucy, tucking the wrench into a hand-sewn shoulder bag and making her way across the room. "You always make the best tea."

The older woman smiled, and tapped the side of her wrinkled nose. "The secret is in the pot. Old china."

"And the pot must be warmed, the tea Earl Grey, and the cosy covered in flowers." said Lucy, repeating the litany from memory as she helped herself to a cuppa.

"And none of your cheek." laughed Nan, wagging a mock-furious finger at her grand-daughter.

The two chuckled together over their steaming cups, drinking deep.
