Welcome to Starbase Versailles

Here on Starbase Versailles we serve a number of purposes. Versailles sits at a pivotol point within the Beta Quadrant - at the nexus or near nexus of the three major powers: the Federation, the Romulan Empire and the Klingon Empire. As such, the station is a hub of activity both politically and economically. Additionally, the federation border defense network is housed out of Versailles and with forces stretched thin after recent conflicts, the border defense network has been reinforced with crew from the Imperial Xeno Legion and is comprised of individuals from major and minor worlds of all 4 quadrants. Versailles is also responsible for oversight of the Federation colony on YaDalla - a planet that has seen its fair share of strife.

» Logging Guidelines for The Sincerest Form of Flattery

Hey All!

Refugees, spies, and Klingons, oh my!

Here are some key facts going forwards, that people can feel free to use in any of their logs, without restriction.

1) There are Romulan Mimic Agents aboard the station. There could be 1 or 100, we don't know. Only the Klingons can identify them, through a DNA test, and a full body scan during a blade-runner-esque style interrogation.
- Feel free to create Klingon NPCs and identify agents at your leisure.
- Also feel free to *trigger* agents at leisure, causing them to assassinate people or sabotage stuff.
- Also also, false accusations will start to fly as word leaks out. Fun fun fun. :)

2) There are thousands of refugees aboard. Some have integrated into the station's population, but most still live in the secured Shanty Town. Feel free to log about aid agencies, the brown-outs and rationing caused by their drain on resources, and the perpetual hate crimes and theft between the refugees and wider population.

3) The Klingons are aboard station in numbers, and they have full access. Some will be reasonable, sober, and intelligent. Many won't be. Feel free to start arguments, pick fights, and generally have fun.

Ping me with any questions. :)

Happy holidays all!

» Plot Tips and Logging Guidance

Hi All,

As you may have noticed, the planet of YaDalla is now gone. The thousands of refugees on Versailles won't be leaving any time soon, and many more are still incoming.

This has the following ramifications, which people should feel free to use in their logs:

- The station is very crowded, despite most of the YaDallans being restricted to the packed-out "Shanty Town".

- The Shanty Town is full of desperate sorts. Expect thievery, assaults, and many wounded people.

- YaDallan gangs are now on the station. They are preying on the weak in the Shanty Town, and their actions need to be curtailed.

- Some Versailles folks look down on the refugees. Expect hate crimes, intolerance, and slurs.

- The pressure on life support has caused power and food rationing, to ensure we still have power for defences if the still-warring Romulans and Klingons drop by, or even pirates. This means the locals have even more reason to hate the YaDallans, and there may be brown outs too.

- Live bands and aid organisations are on the station in force, to help the refugees. Feel free to help them out, or discover nefarious motives behind their "charity". People smuggling maybe.

- Three large ships, including the Timmis, are inbound with a massive bunch of refugees. Feel free to ping your pals on the Timmis for a JL when they arrive.

Lastly, do note that this a new plot line will arrive within the next week or two, once people have had a chance to breathe. It has been planned, and should be a great deal of fun. :)

Until then, roll out the futon ma; we've got a lot of guests.

Best Regards

1. Message from the General
===============================

Hey All,

Welcome to the first Sim Report we've had on Versailles in a while. Things were a little slow around Xmas, but you can see our log count has picked up since then, and I wanted to celebrate by showing people just how much great work has come out of this station since new years.

Since sim reports in the past have often seemed somewhat bloated to me, I've reduced the contents to the bits that people have seemed the most interested in in the past (including myself). If anyone doesn't see a bit that they liked, or thinks a part could be safely dropped, feel free to drop me a line.

These Sim Reports will now be going out once every three months, or thereabouts. Keep an eye open for next one some time in July. I may even put the next one at the end of June, so we can settle into a neat 3, 6, 9, 12 schedule. That way you guys also get a midwinter Sim Report, which is an added Xmas bonus. :)

Lastly, I should probably also mention that 5th Fleet has introduced a logging minimum. From now on you should expect command teams to produce a minimum of one log a week, so no change from me (*grins*). From the members, I ask that you churn out at least one log a month. This includes JLs. People who go a month without a log will be advised that we have noticed, and after two months we will be discussing the matter in council.

If you feel unable to log with that level of reliable frequency, either in the long or short term, please contact me or Amanda Bleetman (Puppy) and we will work with you to figure out a plan that works for everyone. We don't want to be in a position where people simply vanish off the face of the earth without telling anyone.

But we have some good news mixed in with all this doom and gloom. The next plot has begun, we can all say hello to two old friends (Nixon and Aza) who have returned and contributed logs and new characters to our merry little melange, and plans are already afoot to spread word of our merry band far and wide. Woohoo!

And with that, I bid you adieu.

Log well and be merry.

Best Regards

2. Logging Summary
===============================

The subtle forces of Omega wreathed the four quadrants in terror and uncertainty as they plied their trade; destabilising the major players by striking at trade routes and messing with smaller civilisations. By leaving no trace, fear turned to blame, and the major players were drawn to the brink of conflict.

The efforts of Omega eventually culminated in the detonation of a Chroniton Bomb; causing the very fabric of time to warp and disintegrate. Admiral Cerywyn, along with her Time Ship and the majority of the IXL fleet, sacrificed the last 14 months in order to stop the destruction; replacing all trace and memory of her for the last 14 months on Versailles.

In the amended present, the crew now recalls Commodore Kraat'Loss taking over from Cerywyn 14 months ago, before retiring last week. As for Omega, they were assumed destroyed in 2399, and never resurfaced.

The amended present is no bed of roses, however. Disaster has struck YaDalla, and earthquakes are causing devastation on a global scale! StarFleet has been called to reinforce the overwhelmed emergency services, but things are already spiralling out of control!

Can our intrepid heroes show up in time to save the day?

» New Plot Has Begun!

Posted on Fri Apr 27th, 2018 @ 11:57pm by Sails-at-Dawn Mr in Sim Announcement

Hi All!

As you may have guessed from the title, the new plot is officially underway.

The "Shake the roof" log will give you a feel for YaDalla, along with descriptions of some landmarks you can use and a vague description of the regions to get you started.

The "Announcements" log contains some department-specific stuff you can use if you want, though ultimately I want this plot to be as open as it can possibly be. I don't want anyone feeling they have to wait for anyone else before they feel they can log.

This planet has everything, including (but not limited to) deserts, treehouses, skyscrapers, high tech, low tech, swampy marshlands, mining companies, looters, rapists, murderers, injured people, dead people, panicked people, hero people (medical, security, have-a-go, etc), soulless corporate types, mercenaries hired by rich annoying people, and thousands upon thousands of people desperately fleeing for their lives.

Oh, and don't forget the underwater bases, plural. We've got Kamino down there, people!

Other than the two NPCs I named (the Governor and her aide), go nuts. I'm on Discord every day if you want to run stuff past me or Puppy (XO).

I hope people enjoyed the plot logs, cause now it's your turn. :)

Have fun!

Best Regards

Grey (Discord Sails, FB John Terary)

P.S. If anyone particularly sciency wants to be the one to discover why the earthquakes are happening, let me know and I'll send you the details. Even once fixed, there will still be devastation and aftershocks, so don't worry about spoiling the fun early. :)

» Nova - Yay or Nay?

Posted on Sun Apr 22nd, 2018 @ 1:21pm by Sails-at-Dawn Mr in General News

Hello All,

Today's question is a simple one; do any members have an objection to moving exclusively to Nova for log posting?

The council would love to do more work with the Timmis, and having us both use the same tool makes that easier.

Note that you can continue to use email to develop logs, we're only discussing using nova as a log posting and distribution system.

Best Regards

P.S. I won't spoil things, but your warm and cuddly overlords in the Council are already fine tuning our next adventure and the transition to it, so stay tuned!
